Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-20

This Policy explains what personal data Livebooks (the “Service”) collects, why, and what choices you have. The data controller is the operator of Livebooks, contactable at the email address at the bottom of this page.

Data we collect

Account data: your email address, an optional display name, and your chosen interface language and tier. Content data: the works, chapters, codex entries, bookmarks, and reading-progress rows you create. Usage data: pages visited, anonymous device and browser information, and minimal performance metrics, collected via PostHog (EU region) and Vercel Analytics. Payment data: if you subscribe, Stripe processes your payment details and we store only the customer/subscription identifiers and last-four digits Stripe returns to us.

How we use it

We use account and content data to operate the Service, deliver the features you ask for (saving your work, showing chapters to readers, generating ambient audio or images you request), and respond to support requests. We use usage data in aggregate to debug, secure, and improve the Service. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use Your Content to train external AI models.

Vendors and sub-processors

We rely on a small set of trusted vendors to operate the Service: Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting and analytics), Stripe (payments), Upstash (rate limiting), Anthropic and OpenAI (AI features, with prompts and your text sent at the moment a feature runs), ElevenLabs and fal.ai (ambient audio and image generation, only when you trigger them), Sentry (error monitoring), PostHog (product analytics, EU region), and Resend (transactional email). Each vendor processes your data on our behalf under a data-processing agreement.

Cookies

We use a small number of strictly-necessary cookies for authentication and locale preference. Analytics cookies are used only with your consent and can be revoked at any time from the settings page.

Your rights

If you reside in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction that grants equivalent rights, you have the right to access, rectify, or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Account export and account deletion are available from the Privacy section of your account settings; for any other request, write to the contact email below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

Retention

We keep account and content data for as long as your account exists. Upon account deletion we remove personal data within thirty (30) days, subject to backups that rotate within a reasonable window. We retain payment and invoicing records for the period required by Italian tax law (currently ten years). Aggregated, non-identifying analytics may be kept indefinitely.

Children

Livebooks is not directed to children under 16 years of age in the European Economic Area or under 13 elsewhere. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete the data.

Contact

Questions, rights requests, and complaints can be sent to the email address below. We aim to respond within fifteen (15) business days.
